When Things Get Tough Motorcycling Alone

I recently spent an evening solo motorcycle camping on Georgia Pass in Colorado. This was the fourth video I filmed in my Riding Solo in Colorado series. The ride up to the top of Georgia Pass from Jefferson, Colorado was fairly easy but the ride down was far more challenging.

I didn’t have any problems navigating my way across the flat land on a dirt road approaching the front range of the Rocky Mountains from the east near the town of Jefferson, Colorado.

An Easy Road to the Top

Riding up the gravel road to Georgia Pass was really easy. The road was well-maintained with no issues or problems along the way.

11,585 Feet Elevation

At an elevation of 11,585 feet, Georgia Pass sits on top of the Continental Divide in the Rocky Mountains.

Mountain Views

As you would expect, the views from a pass at this elevation are quite spectacular with forested mountains in the foreground and other peaks in the distance.

Motorcycle Camping and Cooking

Upon arrival I set up my tent and motorcycle camping kitchen and began preparing a meal on the summit of Georgia Pass. I didn’t see anybody else up there except for a couple of people on side-by-side recreational 4×4 vehicles.

Motorcycle Kitchen

My Deluxe Camping Kitchen is made by Adventure Tool Company. I’ve been using it quite a bit and find it to be exceptionally well made, durable and useful. It’s definitely a good piece of kit although a bit bulky when filled with all of my bushcraft tools I use for motorcycle camping. If you are a serious motorcycle camper you might consider this fine piece of equipment. (I have no affiliation with the company that makes this but I find it useful).

Motorcycle Camping Dinner

A simple meal this evening – some noodles and vegetables which taste pretty good when eaten in a location such as Georgia Pass in Colorado.

A Difficult Descent

I chose to ride down the northern side of Georgia Pass which leads to Breckenridge, Colorado. The road became very difficult with many navigation challenges and several miles of steep, loose rock. I would not advise riding a large adventure motorcycle up or down the north side of Georgia Pass.

DJI Drone Controller

Because of the difficult road it was impossible to film my ride using my DJI Mavic Air 2 drone although I did have the controller mounted on the handlebars which made a fine holder for my cell phone using GaiaGPS for navigation.

I managed to make it to Breckenridge, Colorado in time for a late breakfast but I would not advise riding down there from the Georgia Pass Summit as I found the road to be quite difficult on a large adventure motorcycle. I did however greatly enjoy the experience of solo motorcycle camping on top of Georgia Pass in Colorado.
